"A trip to Ecuador this past June gave me the opportunity to explore my interests in pediatrics, infectious diseases research and international health. Under the guidance of Upstate’s Center for Global Health and Translational Science and Dr. Anna Stewart, I spent three weeks studying medical Spanish and investigating dengue fever."  [Read on...]

Community perceptions of dengue
In 2011, Syracuse University honors student Colin Shea spent several weeks with me in Ecuador to create a film about dengue fever in Machala, 1 year after the biggest epidemic on record.  He and his group did a great job capturing community perceptions of disease risk in this film, which the Ministry of Health continues to use in community outreach events.
